I substitute yogurt for sour cream all the time. I usually use it in dollops on top of Mexican food, or in dips, but I have used it in recipes. Dairy products are nice that way - you can usually substitute them back and forth very easily. To make soured cream all you do is add 1tbsp of lemon juice or vinegar to a 10oz pot of cream, and stir well.
mix double cream with a little bit of lemon juice - hey presto you have sour cream
