My sister has had 5 miscarriages and recently learned she was pregnant. She has been using natural progesterone cream to strengthen the lining of her cervix during the first trimester.
She has had a few bleeding episodes in the past week and started cramping last night, expelling some kind of mucus with old blood in it. At this point she suspects she has lost the baby, and is wondering if her continued use of the cream is keeping her body from expelling the baby.
I can not find anything online to specifically answer my question. She DOES NOT believe in medical treatment which makes this extremely hard. I know what you're thinking, and I don't agree with it either, but criticizing her view isn't going to help. If you know anything about this, please answer! Can natural progesterone cream keep your body from expelling a baby you have miscarried?
I am not sure. But if I was you I would call a dr or clinic and ask them. If you have to tell them your writing a paper they will be more likely to answer if they dont think a realy person is involved. I would guess that the way the body works even if she continued to use the cream that the body would eventually shed the dead tissue on its own. But if it takes to long it might be harmful. You could also call health stores or homeopath healthers and ask them. Can natural progesterone cream keep your body from expelling a baby you have miscarried?
I'm not criticizing her view but she needs to get to a doctor right away, if she has miscarried the baby she is putting herself in danger and if she still has the baby she is putting the baby's life in danger.
Who really knows?
The reason she likely can't find information is because ';natural progesterone cream'; is not a heavily regulated item since it is sold as a cosmetic rather than a drug in the U.S. Unless we took the product to a lab, we don't even know exactly what is in the bottle, how often your sister uses it, dosage levels, how long has she used it, etc...
Regardless, we won't know if this product is...
1) It is actually doing anything at all
2) It is effective
3) It isn't causing harm
4) contains the ingredients listed on the label
Really, she has to go and see someone like a doctor who can run tests to see whats up with her body.
Natural progesterone creams will not help a woman from miscarrying. I realize that your sister doesn't believe in medical treatment, but someone needs to try to get her to an ob/gyn to explain to her what needs to be done.
I miscarried back in 2/98. While trying to get pregnant again I had some bloodwork done, it showed that I had low levels of progesterone. I was prescribed Clomid, but surprisingly I managed to become pregnant before even starting to take it. However, I did have to use progesterone gel (vaginally) during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
During my next pregnancy, I was on progesterone injections for the first 16 weeks.
The cream is not doing your sister good. The fact that she has had 5 miscarriages means that something more is going on with her hormones. She needs to be seen by a reproductive endocrinologist.
